Golestan Chahar Bagh Dress Ring

The Chahar Bagh (چهارباغ) is the Persian paradise garden in its purest form: four quadrants divided by water channels, meeting at a central pool. It is not decorative arrangement but a philosophical statement about order, abundance, and the relationship between the human hand and the natural world. I have taken that plan view and built it in 18ct yellow gold, setting each quadrant with a deep-blue lapis lazuli cabochon and dividing the water channels with a recessed geometric relief referencing Girih tile mathematics. The central meeting point holds a round brilliant-cut diamond at a fractionally raised height, reading as the fountain.

The ring sits bold on the hand but not heavy. The lapis stones are selected for their deep Persian blue with minimal pyrite fleck, so the colour reads solid and saturated under candlelight and gallery lighting alike. The gold framework is deeply cut and high-polished to give maximum contrast between metalwork and stone. An oxidised finish in the Girih channel detail adds tonal depth, drawing the eye across the composition. Worn at an opening, a dinner, or any occasion where the room deserves your full attention, this ring announces itself without raising its voice.

Materials:

  • 18ct yellow gold, high-polish and oxidised contrast finish
  • Deep-blue lapis lazuli cabochons, four stones, minimal pyrite, Afghan origin
  • Round brilliant-cut diamond, E-F colour, VVS clarity, 0.10ct, centre

The Chahar Bagh tradition appears in the Fin Garden at Kashan, the Eram Garden in Shiraz, and the gardens surrounding the Taj Mahal, where Persian architects carried their design philosophy across the Silk Road. This ring carries that living tradition into a contemporary occasion setting. Made to order in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, lead time 8 to 10 weeks.
