I created this pendant as the centrepiece of the Firouzeh collection. A dome of Neyshabur turquoise rises from a sculpted 18ct gold setting, encircled by a halo of brilliant-cut diamonds. The design draws from the turquoise domes of Persian mosques, where the colour was believed to connect earth with the heavens.
The Design
The domed cabochon mirrors the profile of the great turquoise domes that crown Persian sacred architecture. In Persia, turquoise was never merely decorative. It was spiritual, a colour believed to protect the wearer and bring wisdom. The diamond halo adds contemporary brilliance whilst referencing the way Persian architects ringed their turquoise domes with bands of calligraphy and geometric tilework.
