Firouzeh Muqarnas Bridal Ring
Firouzeh Muqarnas Bridal Ring
In the great mosques of Isfahan, honeycomb vaulting draws the eye upward until architecture becomes devotion. I have taken that same ascending geometry, the muqarnas (مقرنس), and placed it at the heart of this bridal ring, so that the commitment it carries rises in the same direction.
The band is formed in 18ct yellow gold, its surface sculpted into a low-profile dome of repeating muqarnas cells. A raw, textured finish on the recessed honeycomb facets contrasts with the high-polish raised ridges, reflecting light the way Isfahan's tilework catches the afternoon sun. The centrepiece is a 7mm oval Grade A Persian turquoise cabochon from the Neyshabur mines, held in a secure bezel that echoes the roundel frames of Persian architectural decoration. Two brilliant-cut E-F colour diamonds in flush rubover settings flank the stone on each shoulder, representing the stars that appear above the garden of paradise in Hafez's poetry.
Materials:
- 18ct yellow gold, high-polish and raw-textured contrast finish
- Persian turquoise, Grade A, 7mm oval cabochon, Neyshabur origin, with certificate of provenance
- Two E-F colour, VVS clarity brilliant-cut diamonds, 0.12ct total weight
The muqarnas vaulting tradition dates to the Sassanian period and reached its most elaborate expression in Safavid Isfahan. Persian architects understood that beauty built from repeating logic is beauty without end. This ring carries that understanding into a life's commitment. It is made to order in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, with a lead time of 8 to 10 weeks, and arrives with a Persian turquoise provenance certificate and a cultural story card explaining the muqarnas heritage.
