I designed Kaveh Ahangar as part of my Afsaneh Legends collection - a series of sculptural pendants that bring the greatest heroes and creatures of Persian mythology to life in fine gold.

Kaveh was a blacksmith who became the catalyst for revolution. When the tyrant Zahhak demanded the brains of young men to feed the serpents growing from his shoulders, Kaveh refused. He tore off his leather apron and raised it as a banner - the Derafsh Kaviani - and led the people to overthrow the king.

This pendant captures that moment: Kaveh in hammered 18ct yellow gold, his hammer raised, holding the sunburst banner of the revolt aloft. The banner is edged in micro-pave diamonds and a single ruby sits at his belt, a nod to the fire and blood of revolution.
